White crystals, precipitated from water with two crystal waters. It is slightly bitter, basically non-toxic, soluble in hot water, slightly soluble in cold water, acidic in aqueous solution, soluble in aqueous solution of potassium hydroxide and sodium hydroxide, insoluble in cold alcohol, ether, benzene and other organic solvents. The chemical formula is C3H3N3O3, and there are two isomers, a keto and an enol structure, usually in a mixture of two isomers.
